What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is a name which can be used to represent a network of computers. In simplistic terms, however, a domain name is used to represent a single Web site. For example, domainsarefree.com points to the machine which "hosts" the files for the Web site you are viewing now. These domain names are centrally stored on the Internet so that there are no conflicts over names.
If you register a domain name, you choose a name to represent your e-mail address and Web site. For example, if you choose "mycompany.com", you can now have the e-mail address anything@mycompany.com and your Web site can be located at mycompany.com.
